Rita's mom here!!! Profits will go to her Dermatology appointments & anything left over will be donated to the rescue that saved her life.
Rita is a pit bull who was pulled from BARCS in MD in 2010. She was picked up as a stray and was a complete hot mess with sarcoptic mange & a skin infection and not a lick of hair on her anywhere. The rescue I worked with at the time pulled her, got the mange/infection cleared up and off to a foster home she went. Well a few months later wanting to move her closer to our area so she could attend adoption events and such she ended up with me. I rode out to pick her up & on the ride home I fell in love. We were almost immediately 'foster failures' because we decided she wasn't going anywhere & we made her a permanent part of our family.
As for her beautiful nakedness (which I love) we have tried all sorts of things, she was spayed - hoping it might be hormonal, no hair. Tried many supplements over the yrs along with grain free kibble, no hair. Had her thyroid checked along with a CBC and urine, all normal. The skin on her back is almost marbled in its scaring and we believe that someone may have poured something on her trying to kill the mange but instead burned her and damaged her skin (killed her hair follicles), maybe its because she went untreated for the mange for so long AND/OR she was born this way - we'll never know why other than our speculations but do know that she is one happy girl with a wardrobe larger than just about any woman out there!
Most recently I switched her over to a prey raw model diet and add extra virgin coconut oil to her meat & I've been giving her massages with the coconut oil - I have noticed some new hairs popping up all over but nothing to get too excited about it and she really enjoys the massages. I've accepted the fact that she'll never have a full coat of hair and that's a ok with me, I love her just the way she is.
